Scheherazade & Sprocket

  1. These are characters that Max Cicchino is rolling for randomly.
  2. What is this character’s name? - Scheherazade and Sprocket. Scheherazade is the traditionalist mother, while Sprocket is her modern, upstart rebel son.
  3. What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - They are Mawyrs and specifically the Hule branch and the Tupi subgroup (capybara-folk). Mawyrs are rodentia outside of Harengon that have been homebrewed by Kurt. They belong to a distinct family line of bipedal, semi-aquatic capybara-folk. They are natively hardy, possessing strong resistances to disease and poison, an innate ability to swim smoothly, and the power to hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. 4. What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - High-Fashion Lace Makers / Black Market Smugglers. Publicly, they are competing, prestigious tailors and lace makers. Behind the scenes, their textile businesses serve as brilliant covers for an illicit, underground smuggling ring that moves heavily regulated, contraband magical clothing (such as boots, capes, and hats of disguise) into a metropolis where magic is strictly policed by the law.
  5. How old are you? - Elder (Scheherazade) and Young Adult (Sprocket). Scheherazade represents the ancient, foundational structure of the family empire, while Sprocket is a restless youth who recently split from his mother’s business to start his own competing storefront.
  6. Describe your physical appearance. - Both characters possess the wide, blunt snouts, dense fur, and heavy-set, calm silhouettes characteristic of capybara-folk humanoids. Scheherazade carries her advanced years with a highly proper, immaculate posture. She aggressively prefers the ostentatious, elegant fashions of her youth, blanketing herself in exquisite, traditional white and silver laces. Sprocket displays a more casual, youthful build and street-smart look, choosing highly experimental, avant-garde modern tailoring to showcase how lace can be woven into contemporary underground trends. His private backroom office is spotlessly clean but styled with a sharp, noir-esque aesthetic.
  7. Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Scheherazade is Proper, Shrewd, and Resolute. Sprocket is Casual, Impetuous, and Resolute. (They share a fierce, unyielding stubbornness).
  8. What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Scheherazade (Lore): She intricately knows the secret harvesting data and behavioral stat blocks of three distinct monsters, most notably the Fey Spider. She leverages this rare lore to safely hunt and weave premium, phase-shifting spider silk into her high-tier contraband apparel. Sprocket (Item): He possesses a rare, stolen family heirloom—a specialized magnifying glass that allows the user to cast the 5th-level divination spell Legend Lore once every 10 days without consuming expensive material components. Peering through this glass gave him the secret historical coordinates of hidden artifacts, inspiring him to rebel against his mother.
  9. What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - The Relic Cold War. A powerful, magical garment component (such as a legendary cloak or enchanted brooch) has surfaced in the city. Sprocket approaches the party with a high-paying underworld job to retrieve the piece so he can integrate it into his new clothing line and permanently corner the local black market. Simultaneously, Scheherazade learns of her son's ambition and hires the party to intercept the selfsame component, tasking them with completely destroying the item using an anti-magic catalyst so her son can never have it.
  10. What would be their reward for succeeding? - Succeeding for Scheherazade: She rewards the party with highly valuable, tangible anti-magic utility tools, such as a single-use Dispelling Stone capable of permanently shattering a magic item, alongside classic aristocratic luxury goods like an Eyes of Charming or a Ring of Charm Person. Succeeding for Sprocket: He awards the party with permanent, intangible underworld infrastructure. By spreading his name through his hidden network, he grants the party unconditional safe passage through dangerous regional territories and lifetime access to the unseen black market nodes across the continent.
  11. What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - If the players accept a job but fail or double-cross either tailor, the consequences align with the family feud. If the party slights Scheherazade, her rigid sense of proper etiquette is violated; she treats it as an unforgivable breach of contract and funds a continuous, ruthless mercenary hit squad to eliminate the party. If the party slights Sprocket, he uses his underworld leverage to completely blacklist the characters, turning every rogue, fence, and shady merchant in the region permanently hostile or silent toward them.

Optional Questions - not required

  • What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Scheherazade wants to maintain absolute, unyielding control over the city's magical textile trade and force her rebellious son to abandon his modern upstart antics to properly succeed the family legacy. Sprocket is driven by a restless ambition to step out from his mother's giant shadow, prove his modern design philosophies are superior, and expand his illicit smuggling enterprise using the cosmic secrets he uncovers through his magnifying glass.
  • How do these affect your general personality? - Scheherazade is icy, imposing, and hyper-fixated on proper decorum, treating any deviation from historical fashion or business ethics as a personal insult. Sprocket adopts a hyperactive, braggadocious exterior, constantly barking orders at his employees to maintain a flawless aesthetic front while masking a deep, lingering desire for his mother to genuinely respect his independent success.
  • How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - The mother and son are currently locked in a polite, highly dangerous corporate cold war. When meeting in public, they put on a meticulously fake, civil front, trading passive-aggressive barbs about shop cleanliness over traditional cups of tea while secretly preparing their next subterranean tactical move. They view adventuring parties as the ultimate tactical cannonballs, happily using them to sabotage each other's warehouses.
  • Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - Both speak fluent Common and the specialized Mawyr dialect. Scheherazade speaks with an aristocratic, slow, and devastatingly sharp high-society accent, occasionally narrowing her eyes to deliver a soul-crushing critique of her surroundings. Sprocket speaks in a fast, rhythmic, and high-energy urban cadence. His primary physical idiosyncrasy involves an anxious habit of surreptitiously patting his vest pocket to check on his hidden magical magnifying glass whenever his mother needles him about his business methods.
  • What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - Together, their competing businesses form the invisible economic foundation of the city’s underground. While the local guard targets low-tier street thugs, Scheherazade and Sprocket quietly dictate the high-fashion trends of the aristocracy above ground while serving as the primary gatekeepers for defensive magical contraband for the entire criminal underworld below ground.
  • Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - They are completely stalled by their own internal family deadlock. Because their resources, smuggling routes, and professional talents are perfectly matched, neither can gain a definitive upper hand over the other without exposing their illegal operations to the heavily regulated municipal guard, keeping their empires permanently deadlocked until an outside party tips the scales.
