- These are characters that Claire Sullivan & Michaelie Love are rolling for randomly.
- What is this character’s name? - Layla and Rebethany.
- What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - Couatl. While originally a single celestial, a mirror-related incident caused Layla’s reflection to step out of the mirror dimension as a separate entity, Rebethany. They often use their Change Shape ability to appear as human women.
- What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - Bandits. Though Couatls are naturally lawful good guardians, Layla and Rebethany act as "Robin Hood" style bandits in a land ruled by a malevolent tyrant. They were branded as outlaws after the mirror they guarded was shattered.
- How old are you? - Layla is a Young Adult, while Rebethany is considered Ancient, as time flows differently within the mirror dimension.
- Describe your physical appearance. - In their true form, they are beautiful, feathered serpents with teal, blue, and green plumage. In humanoid form, Layla appears as a youthful, unassuming human woman in muted pastel colors. Rebethany typically copies Layla’s appearance but often appears lost or uncertain, sometimes mouthing words silently as others speak, a habit from her time as a reflection.
- Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Layla is Meek, Kind, and Uncertain. Rebethany is Mysterious, Enigmatic, and Lost.
- What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Layla adheres to a strict Warrior’s Code, which is the only thing keeping her grounded after the mirror incident. Rebethany possesses an ornate pen brought from the mirror dimension; she doesn't remember its purpose, but she holds it dear as her only connection to her origin.
- What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - Sneak into an enemy camp and translate military plans. The duo needs these plans to assist a local resistance group in stopping the tyrant’s next move, but since they are well-known "bandits," they cannot enter the camp themselves.
- What would be their reward for succeeding? - They offer stolen items or gold, but for a party with larger goals, they may offer a piece of prophetic information or a powerful McGuffin linked to Rebethany's ornate pen.
- What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - If the call is refused, the tyrant’s army successfully moves on the nearby town, leaving it oppressed and militarized. If the players fail the mission, Rebethany views them as a "lost cause" and may attempt to eliminate them to prevent them from causing further harm to the resistance's efforts.
Optional Questions - not required
- What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Layla wants to figure out why the mirror shattered and if the breach will cause catastrophic problems for the world. Rebethany is motivated by a desire to learn how to exist in the material world, often mimicking the mannerisms of those she observes.
- How do these affect your general personality? - Layla is constantly suspicious of her twin, worried that the "mirror self" might eventually trigger a disaster. Rebethany is uncomfortably observant, often staring at people to learn how to "be human."
- How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - Layla is the "good cop," acting with kindness and trying to avoid violence. Rebethany is the "bad cop," acting as a cold enigma who is quick to judge the party's worth.
- Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - While they both speak in Common, Rebethany possesses a distinct, unsettling physical idiosyncrasy: due to her origin as a mirror reflection, she frequently mouths words silently in perfect synchronization as other people are actively speaking, unconsciously mimicking their lip movements.
- What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - Their presence has turned the local forest into a legendary, localized "dead zone" for traveling merchants, causing caravans to hire high-priced mercenaries just to navigate the highway.
