- This is a character that Mike Christensen rolled for randomly using our tables.
- What is this character’s name? - Khira (pronounced Key-ruh)
- What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - Death Knight (formerly a mortal Bard from the College of Whispers pretending to be from the College of the Maestro)
- What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - Undercover Assassin / Chimneysweep. Bound in servitude to a powerful Lich master, Khira works undercover in high-society cities disguised as a common, humble chimneysweep. She uses the guise to gain undetected access to noble manors, keeps, and strongholds, gathering internal intelligence and scouting entryways before executing deadly strikes or opening portals for her master's forces.
- How old are you? - Midlife (Middle-Aged).
- Describe your physical appearance. - In her disguised form, Khira appears as a plump, sturdy, middle-aged woman with curly red hair, dressed in soot-stained worker's clothes and carrying a standard chimneysweep's brush apparatus. When dropping her illusion (via a magic hat of disguise), her true form is revealed: an imposing, CR 17 armored Death Knight clad in dark, ash-colored plate armor. Soot and crumbling volcanic ash continuously seep out from the seams of her plate mail as if her internal body is made of regenerating dust. Her chimney brush transforms into a deadly halberd, and she carries a magic conducting baton tucked into her gauntlet.
- Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Patient, Unpretentious (Ground-level practical), and Creative (Theatrically inventive).
- What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Magic Item--The Magic Conducting Baton: A relic from her past life as a College of Whispers / Maestro Bard, this baton acts as a spellcasting focus for her illusory magics and shadow-stealing abilities. Secret Lore--The Lich's True Name / Abyssal Command Phrase: Khira's absolute obedience is governed by a secret Abyssal true name/passphrase held by her Lich master. Anyone who discovers and speaks this exact phrase can wrest control of her away from the Lich.
- What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - Steal the Gambler's Ring. Khira secretly seeks to break free from her undead servitude. She hires or blackmails the adventuring party to track down an extraordinarily wealthy high-stakes gambler in the city's fighting pits and steal an artifact-level gambling ring. This ring functions as her Lich master's phylactery/soul-jar; possessing it gives Khira the leverage she desperately needs to bargain for her freedom.
- What would be their reward for succeeding? - Legendary Mobility Items & Immunity. If the party successfully retrieves the ring, Khira rewards them with high-tier mobility gear (such as Winged Boots, Anti-Gravity Boots, or a Cloak of Levitation). Furthermore, she pledges to spare their lives, keep their stronghold secrets safe, and provide advance warning against her master's future invasions.
- What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - Infiltration Blackmail & Assault. If the party refuses her offer or exposes her cover, Khira drops her disguise and threatens immediate destruction. Having already spent weeks mapping out the party's stronghold as their hired chimneysweep, she knows every secret passage and defensive weakness, promising to unleash an army of undead directly into their home if they do not cooperate.
Optional Questions - not required
- What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Khira's ultimate goal is to break her soul-binding contract, destroy her Lich master, and retire into quiet, peaceful mortality. She has no desire for conquest or slaughter; she simply wants her agency back.
- How do these affect your general personality? - She behaves like a cold, reluctant enforcer (reminiscent of Darth Vader or the Winter Soldier). She delivers devastating threats in a slow, calm, and deliberate whisper, performing brutal tasks strictly because she sees no other choice.
- How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - She is an expert manipulator who tells people exactly what they want to hear to achieve short-term goals. Around paladins or holy figures, she remains guarded, but when presented with a genuine spark of redemption (such as holy magic touching her cold fingers), a glint of her tragic former mortal life shines through.
- Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - She speaks Common and Abyssal in a low, measured, and icy cadence. Her physical idiosyncrasies include flexing her gauntleted fingers as if trying to feel warmth in her dead hands, and rhythmically tapping her conducting baton against her leg.
- What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - Operating as an invisible ghost in plain sight, Khira has been the silent instrument behind dozens of political assassinations and fallen city-states. Because nobody pays attention to the hired chimneysweeps cleaning fireplaces, she has dismantled entire noble houses from the inside out.
- Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - She is entirely bound by her Abyssal true-name contract. Because her Lich master commands her absolute obedience through magic, Khira cannot act on her own ambitions or strike back at her master directly without outside mortal proxies securing her master's phylactery ring.
