- Improvisational / Scratch (Winged-It). Dr. Ordway brought a single starting seed (a dragon) and built the rest of Rembrandt's lore, dilemma, personality, and side quest through on-air brainstorming and narrative prompts.
- What is this character’s name? - Rembrandt (Chosen as an unpronounceable Draconic name translated into Common to reflect his artistic ambitions).
- What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - Young Gold-ish Metallic Dragon (with subtle, iridescent chromatic undertones of green and blue in different lighting).
- What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - Aspiring Fine Art Collector & Gallery Proprietor. Rather than hoarding "vulgar, gauche piles of gold coins" like traditional dragons, Rembrandt aspires to build an elite hoard of fine art, paintings, and masterwork sculptures. However, as an elephant-sized young dragon, he suffers from immense anxiety over accidentally ripping delicate canvases with his sharp claws or letting cave dampness ruin fine parchment.
- How old are you? - Young Dragon (Sub-elephant size; recently left the wormling stage to establish his own hoard).
- Describe your physical appearance. - Rembrandt is a classic bipedal dragon with four legs, large wings, expressive bright eyes, a long narrow head, and sharp claws. His scales are predominantly gold, but in shifting light, iridescent undertones of deep teal, blue, and emerald green shimmer across his hide. He is particularly mindful of his posture, attempting to look dignified, refined, and artistic rather than purely ferocious.
- Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Artistic, Fastidious, and Thoughtful (An overthinking "analysis paralysis" dragon who plans every detail before acting).
- What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Secret Lore—The Salt Mine Gallery Concept: Rembrandt possesses deep architectural and environmental knowledge of underground preservation. He knows that an arid, dry salt mine is the ultimate location to preserve delicate oil paintings and canvas art from cave moisture, and he seeks to claim a salt mine to construct the realm's first subterranean dragon-owned art gallery.
- What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - The Salt Mine Real Estate & Art Commission. Rembrandt recruits an adventuring party to locate and clear out a dry salt mine (or resolve a dispute with local miners/monsters using it) so he can safely store his art hoard. Additionally, he hires creative party members or artists to produce portraits of him in heroic poses or safely transport delicate artwork across the realm without tearing the canvas.
- What would be their reward for succeeding? - Theatrical Dragon Muscle & Gallery Access. In exchange for resolving his art preservation dilemma, Rembrandt offers his formidable dragon presence as a theatrical deterrent, staging "ferocious" fake dragon attacks to help the party scare off rivals or save towns without unnecessary bloodshed. He also grants them VIP access to view his masterwork gallery.
- What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - Consequence of Disrespect / Refusal: Reluctance & Resentment. If a party mocks his artistic vision or ruins a piece of art in front of him, Rembrandt loses his fastidious temper, delivering a mild toasting with his fire breath. Consequence of Neglect: The Macbeth Spiral (Evil Cultist Influence). If ignored or mistreated, Rembrandt's conflicted chromatic undertones win out; he succumbs to a bitter "Macbeth spiral," allowing local dragon cultists to move in, clear the salt mine by force, and turn him into a tyrannical regional threat.
Optional Questions - not required
- What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Rembrandt's core motivation is establishing a world-renowned, perfectly preserved art hoard and commissioning masterwork portraits of himself, proving that dragons can be patrons of high culture rather than crude beasts.
- How do these affect your general personality? - He is eloquent, polite, and deeply appreciative of beauty, but prone to overthinking and fastidious anxiety. He prefers diplomatic or theatrical solutions over brutal slaughter, as chasing screaming peasants is "far too uncouth."
- How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - He treats artistic or polite humanoids like intellectual peers and instant friends ("speaking the language of the heart"). With rude adventurers or vulgar hoard-looters, he responds with haughty, dramatic arrogance or flame-toasting.
- Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - He speaks Common and Draconic in a cultured, dramatic, and theatrical cadence. Physical idiosyncrasies include tilting his long head to examine drawings at an angle, angling his scales to catch the best light, and visibly wincing whenever sharp claws get near delicate paper.
- What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - Rembrandt aims to reshape the local economy by turning an old salt mine into a bustling cultural hub, complete with art booths, patio seating, and performing bards.
- Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - He is limited by his physical size, lack of capital, and clumsy claws. Because he lacks fine dexterity to handle art and has not yet secured dry real estate, he is stuck wandering the roads seeking artistic proxies.
