- These are characters that Katie DeMatteis & Ben Martin-Mooney are rolling for randomly.
- What is this character’s name? - Nox and Elanora. Nox is the name of the teenage Yeti, while Elanora (whom Nox affectionately but annoyingly nicknames Nori) is the child Lamia running the counter.
- What is their ancestry (i.e. human, elf, dwarf, halfling, etc)? - Yeti and Lamia. Nox is a massive, fluffy mountain beast experiencing a coastal lowlands summer, while Elanora belongs to a traditionally sinister, "lion-centaur" race of desert-ruin predators, who have the ability to shapechange.
- What is your job or role (i.e. farmer, hierling/mercenary, shopowner, bandit, etc)? - Nox is an academic intern tasked with diving into coastal waters to excavate historical ruins. Elanora acts as the front-of-house manager for her family’s premier local apothecary shop
- How old are you? - Teenager (Nox) and Child (Elanora). Despite her youth, Elanora completely runs the day-to-day storefront transactions, while Nox is working her very first out-of-town summer internship.
- Describe your physical appearance. - Nox stands seven feet tall, but due to the summer heat, her shaggy winter coat has shed from stark white into a deep, earthy brown. She pushes fashion boundaries by wearing a giant, oversized corporate internship sweatshirt, sporting purple tie-dyed streaks in the hair on her head, and displaying a mouth full of dental braces that prevent her from eating apples or popcorn. Elanora utilizes her innate shapechanging abilities to maintain a flawless magical disguise as a delicate, human child wearing a large work apron that ties around her neck and paws, completely hiding her true, hairless Sphinx-cat-style lower torso from the public.
- Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Nox is Sassy, Dramatic, and Passionate. Elanora is Quiet, Meticulous, and Mischievous.
- What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept or particular person (i.e. family member, guild member, honor, justice, love etc.) - Intersecting Ideals. Nox is deeply devoted to the ideal of mathematics, applying complex geometric trajectory equations to ocean currents and historical digs. Elanora is obsessed with the ideal of astronomy, blanketing the shop's walls in complex constellation charts and painting custom zodiac symbols onto her potion labels to signify the precise celestial hour an alchemical batch was brewed.
- What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - Slay the Deep Sea Dragon and Retrieve the Star. Nox needs the party to eliminate a massive prehistoric sea serpent/sea dragon that has blockaded her team's underwater archaeological dig site, threatening to ruin her summer job evaluation. Simultaneously, Elanora uses Nox’s mathematical trajectories to track a rare celestial meteorite that just impacted into that exact same coastal trench where these ruins are. She needs the party to retrieve the fallen star-metal, this "Dragonstar", before it is lost to the deep.
- What would be their reward for succeeding? - Nox creates a custom, highly insulation-heavy snowsuit crafted entirely out of her shed white winter coat, which grants the wearer permanent resistance to cold damage and absolute immunity to exhaustion effects caused by sub-zero environments. Elanora grants the party an official, lifetime corporate discount on all alchemy and water-breathing potions at the storefront.
- What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - If the party refuses or fails, the deep-sea serpent permanently locks down the bay, destroying Nox's archaeological career and forcing her to return home to the mountains with unaligned teeth. If the party outright rejects the quest, Elanora hits them with the biggest, most devastatingly sad "Puss-in-Boots" eyes imaginable, filling the players with absolute personal guilt while permanently locking them out of the city's potion monopoly.
Optional Questions - not required
- What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Nox is driven by a passionate desire to escape her landlocked mountain village, explore the wider world, and secure a glowing recommendation from her archaeology professors. Elanora is motivated by a deep longing to escape her mundane counter duties, dreaming of living amongst the stars while naively using her artistic labels to bring order to her shop.
- How do these affect your general personality? - Nox is an overly dramatic teenager who gets easily stressed about her job security but balances it with a highly defensive, sassy exterior. Elanora acts with a meticulous, business-savvy maturity that masks her childish, cat-like impulse to playfully knock fragile glass vials right off her own countertops when she gets bored.
- How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - The duo has formed an organic, protective big-sister bond over their daily morning potion transactions. When dealing with unique planar travelers like Orion the Astral Elf, Nox completely forgets her teenager angst to geek out over star maps, while Elanora stares open-mouthed at his galaxy-swirling eyes, treating spacefarers like living manifestations of her beloved constellations.
- Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - They communicate in Common but utilize distinct social cadences. Elanora speaks in a high-pitched, sweet, precocious child's voice and is prone to wiggling her cat-like ears toward the door or perching her front paws on the high counter to look over the top. Nox speaks in a highly dramatic, nasal teenager cadence, constantly flicking her purple hair out of her face and complaining about the agonizing dietary limitations of her new dental braces.
- What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - Elanora's family business holds an absolute, ruthless monopoly over the entire desert port town’s pharmaceutical trade. Elanora's innocent child-like presence serves as the perfect marketing face for the store, keeping the public utterly oblivious to the cutthroat financial reality behind the counter.
- Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - They are heavily restricted by administrative naivety and physical limitations. Nox is entirely blind to the dark reality of her surroundings, completely unaware that her sweet little friend Elanora is a shapechanging Lamia whose family secured their business monopoly through systemic assassination and blackmail. Meanwhile, Nox's lack of combat training and agonizing summer-shed overheating leave the duo entirely dependent on outside mercenaries to clear out the prehistoric sea serpent/dragon blockading their coastal dig site.
