Sidekicks & Sidequests

Building a world, one character at a time.

Einon

  1. Randomized / Character Generation. Frederick brought the concept of a Bronze Dragonborn bard and rolled physical dice on air.
  2. What is this character’s name? - Einon (A dramatic, classic fantasy name he adopts for his bardic persona).
  3. What is their ancestry? - Bronze Dragonborn (A bronze-scaled dragonborn with a tail, considered a rare physical trait among his kind).
  4. What is your job or role? - Traveling Minstrel & Aspiring Bard. Einon is a young dragonborn performer who travels from tavern to tavern playing his lute, singing, and attempting to build a legendary name for himself.
  5. How old are you? - Young Adult (In his early 20s; remarkably confident for someone so early in his performing career).
  6. Describe your physical appearance. - Einon is a tall, imposing Bronze Dragonborn with bronze scales, a long tail, a plumed hat, and custom-fitted, widely set bifocal glasses. Uniquely, he has completely shaved down and blunted the claws on his fretting hand so he can press the lute strings, while keeping long, sharp talons on his picking hand to act as natural picks.
  7. Describe yourself with 3 adjectives. - Foolishly Confident, Clumsy, and Driven.
  8. What is a valuable item/piece of lore/secret that this character possesses? Or do they value an ideal/concept? - Item—"Enchanted" Poulaines (Curly-Toed Jester Shoes): Einon wears a pair of absurd, extremely long, curly-toed pointed shoes with his rear claws poking out the back. He firmly believes the shoes are enchanted to help his terrible foot-eye coordination, though his tripping fits suggest otherwise.
  9. What is a particular quest you would be willing to recruit or hire the player characters to go do? - Retrieving the Hidden Soul-Repository Painting. Out of sheer petty rivalry to stop a competing bard from completing an art collection, Einon hires adventurers to travel to his old apartment in a neighboring city, break in, and retrieve a secret self-portrait painting hidden in a lead-lined compartment. Unbeknownst to Einon, the painting is the soul repository (phylactery/anchor) of an ancient Lich.
  10. What would be their reward for succeeding? - His "Famous" Cracked Lute. Upon receiving the painting, Einon rewards the party with the very lute upon which he composed his "masterpiece." He considers this a gesture of immense generosity, despite the fact that the instrument has a large crack on the back from when he fell on it.
  11. What would be the consequence of failure or refusing the call? - Einon's Tantrum, Debt Collectors & The Lich BBEG. If the party refuses the quest, Einon throws a bitter, theatrical tantrum—arrogantly claiming they passed up the opportunity of a lifetime—before the Lich eventually tracks down the unshielded painting itself, unleashing undead chaos. If the party accepts but fails the quest, Einon remains trapped in deep underworld debt (leaving him to be hounded and roughed up by loan sharks), while unsealing the lead-lined compartment alerts the Lich's agents, introducing an arch-undead BBEG into the campaign regardless of the outcome.

Optional Questions - not required

  • What are the goals and motivations of your character? - Einon wants nothing more than to become the most famous, celebrated minstrel in the realm, completely oblivious to his own clumsiness and lack of natural musical finesse.
  • How do these affect your general personality? - He is unshakeably confident, theatrical, and dramatic. He refuses to acknowledge his mistakes or his lack of hand-foot coordination, always blaming external factors when he knocks over tables or breaks an instrument.
  • How do you normally interact with your family/friends/peers? With your enemies/rivals? With people who work for you/report to you? With player characters? - He speaks to everyone as if addressing an adoring audience, treating thugs and debt collectors as "fans" and reacting to genuine danger with blustering, pompous deflections.
  • Do you have a particular accent or language? Any idiosyncrasies in how you act and speak? - He speaks in a booming, dramatic stage voice, occasionally making odd vocalizations due to his lack of lips while strumming with his asymmetrical claw hands.
  • What impact have you made on the world? How have you shaped the local area? - He has become the infamous "talk of the town" in local taverns—famous less for his musical genius and more for his flamboyant plumed hat, jester shoes, and trail of broken glassware.
  • Do you have any current problems that prevent you from being a bigger player on the stage? - He is heavily in debt to underworld thugs from his previous city after taking out loans he couldn't repay to finance his "grand tour."
